Vhembe District Municipality Executive Mayor Miyelani Chauke aka Mabanana says the water problems he is trying to solve did not start from the time he became the executive mayor but longstanding problems that started up to ten years ago. Speaking at Nghomunghomu in the Collins Chabane Local Municipality on the occasion of opening a water tap that provides water to the water starved community,Chauke said he decided to drill one baorehole in the village after he was informed by local ANC leadership about the water issue in the community. “I have decided to drill this one borehole as a temporary measure to assist the community, the long term being to recover the water plant that was vandalised and destroyed and was providing water to several communities including Nghomunghomu,” he said. \He said the vandalised plant cost more than R10-million . The borehole was drilled at the local traditional eader’s kraal and Chauke said that was for security purposes. The local traditional leader Edward Khosa said the intervention of the executive ayor at his community restored his faith in the ANC. “Now I believe that the one who disgraces the ANC is just a rotten apple and the organisation is right and we must protect it,” said Khosa.
