Professor Bila says suicide is not the way to go
If you failed, try again, says Professor Nontombeko Joyce Bila to matriculants

Well known educationist Professor Nontombeko Joyce Bila has issued a message to matriculants who did not get the results they desired and called on them not to commit suicide but try again.
Professor Bila who is also a motivational speaker and is known to be passionate about education as well as the welfare of the youth issued the statement on the eve of the release of the results by Basic Education Minister Angie Motshega.
She said: “Despite the fact that this is the important trajectory in your life, suicide is not the way to go. If you did not make it, this is not the end of the world. When we fail, we rise up and try again.”
The doc said learners must appreciate that they wanted to pass with flying colours but it did not happen. She said it could still happen in future if they try again.
“Do not lose heart. Feeling useless and helpless does not make the situation better but we should appreciate all efforts made and accept the outcome, “she said.
She should know better.
Prof Bila’s early life was not a bed of roses but she has weathered her early life’s storms and she is now riding a wave of success.
Two years ago she graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy degree in social work from the University of Pretoria.
Her thesis was to focus on mental health care in mental health care in various hospitals, clinics and mental institutions.
She says that was not easy to achieve as she had to juggle between being a wife doing wife chores, a businesswoman and a mother.
She is a woman who wears many caps.
She heads a well-known nongovernmental organization, Sesanani Empowerment Organisation that is well known in the Pretoria area.
This NGO distributes sanitary pads to informal areas and townships in the area.
During the height of the Convid -19 pandemic, she provided electronic gadgets to rural leaners to facilitate online learning.
She also assists several students at the University of Johannesburg by paying for their accommodation.
Prof Bila is also a well-known motivational speaker and she gets invited at different events to give speeches.
She owns properties in the hospitality industry particularly in Cape Town and Malamulele.
Against the odds, she emerged to be one of the most powerful women in the country.
