The fight against gender based violence and femicide should start from families, Collins Chabane Local municipality mayor Shadrack Maluleke says.Maluleke says families should teach their boy and girl children how to behave and that should lead to peaceful lives where the scourge of family violence would not exist.

The mayor was speaking at Shigamani Junior Bucs ground at Shigamani in the Collins Chabane Local municipality in the event organised by the municipality in conjunction with Love Life and Soul City.He said the scourge has become a societal issue and called on all people to join together to fight it.Giving the purpose of the event, Dr Lemson Maluleke who heads community services at the municipality said the municipality was joining the rest of the country to fight gender based violence because it has become a threat to democracy.

Both the local chief Hosi Bohani Shigamani and Vhembe Contralesa chairperson Prince Gulukhulu Mathebula addressed the event.Other speakers came from Saps, Home Affairs, department of health and the IEC.
