Shigamani High Class of 23 told to fly high

Hosi Shigamani, who is the secretary of the Congress of South African Traditional leaders in the Collins Chabane sub region and is also a member of the executive of Contralesa in the province, is continuing to lead the campaign to motivate the Class of 23 Grade 12 learners at Shigamani High School.
The traditional leaders has dangled carrots to three topmost learners at the school who will do will at the upcoming grade 12 examinations.
The topmost learner will receive an amount of R11 000 plus a brand new laptop while the other two learners will receive almost half the amounts received by the top learners.
Different stakeholders in the community raised an amount of R23 260 to motivate the learners.
The event was attended by the department of education represented by circuit manager Mr Aubrey Mabasa.
Also in attendance was the Shigamani traditional council representatives, school management team, school governing body, the business community as well as the school’s Class of 23.
Last year, crack learner at the school Amukelo Alicia Nkuna received an amount of R9 150 as an incentive from the amount raised by the traditional council, local pastor Velaphi Khosa and other stakeholders.
Amukelo who is now a student at the University of the Witwatersrand motivated the learners to follow in her footsteps.
Hosi Shigamani said he and his traditional council were concerned for education because it was a societal matter.
It is hoped other traditional leaders should take a cue from him.
