Rural lass Mkateko Vivian Mabunda from Lombard Village in the Collins Chabane Local Municipality in Limpopo is oozing confidence after she recently addressed an international conference in India.
The lass are still on cloud nine after she addressed a Brics conference at the University of Kota in the state of Rajasthan in India.
Mkateko, a postgraduate student at the Tshwane University of Technology, and a Master’s degree in Public Management. holder, says she has gone to India as part of her research for her post graduate studies.
She told The Village Voice: “My research topic at the master’s level was: An Assessment of the Municipal Re-Demarcation Process in Local Government: A Case Study of the Malamulele and Vuwani Areas.”
She said part of her current post graduate studies required her to write research papers and present them to academic conferences.
“I wrote an abstract in response to a call for papers that was advertised by Brics – short for Brazil, Russia, India and South Africa- research forum.
My abstract was then accepted, and I proceeded to write a full research paper to present it at the BRICS conference, “she said.
The paper was titled: “Implications of load shedding on SMEs contributions to employment growth and living standards in the Collins Chabane local municipality, South Africa.”
She said the objective of this paper was to develop strategies to better deal with the effects of load shedding in the Collins Chabane Municipality.
She went on to present the paper and she obviously made an impression.
The paper is now sent off for publication.
This was after she received the certificate of presentation.
“For me it was a nice academic journey I learned about different cultures and writing styles from candidate from other countries, such as Russia, Brazil, and India. Therefore, the conference improved my writing and presentation skill, “she said
She had kept the trip to herself and her siblings just saw her on Facebook with Indian clothes.
“We were all happy at home when we saw her clad in Indian attire. When I called her it was then that I knew she had attended the conference and she wanted to shock is all. I think she will scale dizzy heights in education and the sky is the limit for her, “said her elder brother Hlulani, himself the employee of the Collins Chabane Local Municipality.
