Gogo Ercy Ngcobo wins another award

Gogo Ercy Ngcobo, 95, is a winner.. She has been selected by Daily Sun newspaper and the City of Johannesburg as the Best Gogo of the Year. Reacting to her mother’s latest achievement, her daughter Thobekile Twala said:”This is another chapter in a lIfe that has increasingly become a story of purpose, resilience and service.” The gogo who is a former Elim Hospital nurse in April last year scooped the AFRICAN EARTHizens award for her role in recycling discarded plastics and turning them into works of art. The award was from environmental activist Thyssen-Ambursley. Her works focused on looking at ordinary women who made a difference. Then in May last year she received another honour from EPR Waste Association of South Africa recognising her role in recycling. In the latest award, she was nominated by her grandson Tebogo Twala who saw the community role she played despite her advanced years.
Her daughter Twala continued:” Tebogo did not simply nominate a grandmother, but a woman whose life deserved to be seen. The wider world now has the opportunity to know her,” she said.
