MEC for Economic Development, Environment and Tourism in Limpopo Tshitereke Matibe says that traditional leaders would do well to emulate Hosi Humphrey Mugakula Makuleke.

Matibe is the one who officially launched the  Makuleke Greening Project, the initiative of the “visionary leader.”

“The community should count itself luck to have a visionary leader like Hosi Makuleke, who embarks on job creating initiatives for his people, and if we had twenty leaders like him, Limpopo would be far,” said Matibe.

Matibe added:”You are a visionary leader. I have not seen a community with a visionary leader like you, a leader who can create jobs. We will support you.”

He promised to start a packaging plant in the area which would yield many more jobs

This would be one of the ways of his department’s support for the chief’s vision, said Matibe

“My vision is the creation of not just 350 jobs, but 350 jobs,” added Matibe who further said that they may not reach that number but with that as a target many more jobs would be created.

He said he was coming back to the area with the Limpopo Tourism Board and he hoped more project could be on the way for the area.

“You are doing what the president said… plant a million trees. Makuleke is doing the programme of the president,” he said and called on different stakeholders including the University of Venda to support the initiative.

Vhembe District Executive Mayor Freda Nkondo and Collins Chabane Local Municipality Mayor Shadrack Maluleke also praised the chief.

Hosi Makuleke said the project started in 2017 after they realised that village was affected by deforestation.

He said for a start every household must plant one tree and later each house hold must have different trees.

He also gave credit to the executive mayor Nkondo saying the project was able to start after she started a water project in the area.

Later Matibe led the tree planting event at the Makuleke traditional council offices, Makuleke clinic and at one family near the chief’s kraal.

Many stakeholders gave messages of support.

Amongst them were Makuleke Concessionaires, Kruger national Park, VBR, Smart Start and the Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa. Contralesa was led by Prince Dr Gulukhulu Mathebula.

Also at the event was Hosi Mahonisi whose late father was also a friend of the late Hosi Makuleke, Hosi Humphrey Mugakula’s father.
