Collins Chabane Local Municipality mayor Moses Maluleke has praised the late councilor and ANC leader Mavuyisi Claudine Fungheni as a dedicated community worker who also had a good political standing.
Speaking during her funeral service at her Malamulele Township home on Thursday Maluleke said the late leader was everywhere in the municipality forum area despite her health challenges in recent years.
“She had accepted her situation and was a motivator to those in similar situation and her passing on is a big loss to the community,” said Maluleke.
“With her wealth of experience, we relied upon her in helping us mold our municipality,” he said.
Maluleke also said he was proud of her political credentials. Fungheni passed on at her home on July 3 after a short illness.
She was a member of the provincial executive committee of the ANC Womens’ League in Limpopo as well as being on the executive committee member of the Collins Chabane municipality at her time of passing on.
“She was a gallant fighter and was a champion of the underprivileged. She was very strong in issues of gender particularly advocating for women empowerment and was also against gender based violence,” he said.
The late Fungheni was one of the few councilors who served on the political management teams of two municipalities.
She was the chief whip of the Thulamela Local Municipality and later the speaker of the Vhembe District Municipality.
That was before her present position as a member of the executive council of the Collins Chabane municipality dealing with special programmes.
The funeral was held under strict Covid-19 rules .
