Two children of community leader Love Mashele have explained why they gave him soccer boots as present during the function they organised in his honour. Mashele is a well-known community leader at Matsakali village in the Collins Chabane Local Municipality.

He recently turned 60 and the children on his greater family organised a function for him and his twin sister Mthavini Eunice Vukeya. His daughter Sharon Mashele explained why they organised a surprise party for him.

“My father does not have time to rest and goes all the time for community and family. He is serving in different structures and we wanted to show that we love him. He has done so much for us but we have not had the time to appreciate him,” she said.

She said the soccer boots were meant to tell him that he may be 60 but he must keep on looking after himself health wise.

“The boots are also to serve as a memento and even at the age of 90 he must look at them with pride,” she said.

Myna Mashele who is his brother’s daughter added, “He has taught us unity as a family and we wanted to do something to appreciate him. He has also brought the family name proud because wherever we go when we mention the name Mashele, they do not fail to associate us with Love Mashele,” she said.
