The leadership of the all-conquering Lulekani Primary netball team from Lulekani Township outside Phalaborwa in Limpopo that beat the odds to emerge winners of the National Sports Championships did not forget where they came from.
They have dedicated their win to the medical doctor who donated their kit but died on the eve of the tournament. Graynelle Makhubele, a respected local medico was the team’s destiny helper and donated the kit the team used in the games in Boksburg in Gauteng. Sad to say she passed on two days ago and today a memorial service was held in her honour, coinciding with the school team’s performance in the national competition. In her honour, the team used the kit she donated and dedicated the win to her.
The team’s coach Mrs Khomisani Ceko said it was a bitter sweet victory. “We were happy that we brought the bacon home and also sad that our destiny helper is no more. She should have been alive to see that she was supporting right people, winners, “she said.
The school has received a trophy and gold medals for the players and also for the principal, educators, and all the donors. “I also thank the parents who made this trip a success, “said Mrs Ceko. On the first day, the Lulekani girls lost one game to Elarduspark, 9-16, but beat four other schools, namely Atang 18-05, Vulindlela 19-2, Chelsea 12-09, and JJ van der Merwe 17-15.
