Collins Chabane Local Municipality to generate own electricity
Mayor always fears municipality would depend on Eskom

Collins Chabane Local Municipality’s application for a license to generate its own electricity has been approved by the National Energy Regulator of South Africa.
Mayor Shadrack Gezani Maluleke said this while presenting the 2025/2026 budget at the Malamulele Community Hall on Tuesday.

He said the new development would affect structural changes both politically and administratively.
“The municipality will have a stand alone department of Energy and Mechanical engineering. The granting of the licence comes with additional fiscal benefits to the tune of R300 000 000,” he said.

He added that the municipality would not depend on Eskom would have its dollar plant funded by the department of electricity and Energy as a mentor of the municipality.
