Vhembe District Executive Mayor Tsakani Freda Nkondo has hailed the sacrifices of the June 16 1976 that led to the democracy enjoyed in South Africa.

Speaking at the Mayoral Imbizo held at Makuleke village bordering the internationally renowned Kruger National Park today, Nkondo says the 1976 paved the way for democracy but the new generation is facing its own challenges such as joblessness, doing drugs and indulging in alcoholic drinks.
“Rather than cupping down your chin and complain of joblessness, some young people rise to the occassion and do something for themselves,” she said.
She gave an example of a young entrepreneur who is into farming and has walked away with R150 000 at the recent Vhembe Young Entrepreneur of the year.

She also said there was one young man who is disabled and is presently employing 40 people.
She said successful young people from Vhembe also contribute to the growth of the national economy.
She had listened to the demands of the community who demanded jobs, roads and water amongst a host of demands.

She said they will be looked into and will not be fulfilled in one day because of a limited budget and that they are looking at a big are under Vhembe.
Local Chief Humphrey Mugakula Makuleke also emphasised local people should prioritise entrepreneurship rather than depending on looking for jobs. He said he was looking forward to Makuleke Day which will be celebrated in the village on June 28.
