Bally’s stature was huge, so teams from outside the ward are eligible
The Bally Manganyi games at Mahonisi in the Collins Chabane Local Municipality seem to be gaining in popularity and have drawn interest from teams outside the local municipality forum area.
Having started merely involving teams from the ward in honour of the late Bally Manganyi who was a community builder, a sports and political figure, the tourney this year had teams from the Greater Giyani Local Municipality.
The tourney was held under strict Convid -19 regulations.
Participating teams were Bulwini Hotbeans, Bashanyana FC from Mdabula, Gawula Movers, Mukhomi Real Madrid, Real Fighters, Limpopo Poison and Langutani Blue Birds.
The tournament was won by Bashanyani who beat Gawula Movers in the finals. The Mdabula lads won 4-3 on penalties after the two teams were locked in a 1-all stalemate at the end of regulation time.
The spokesperson of the tournament Mbhoni Manganyi said looking at the late leader’s stature, it was decided to allow teams from even outside the local municipality forum area to participate.
“We expect the tourney to grow especially if the dreaded pandemic can slow down,” said Manganyi.
For their efforts Bashanyana received prize money, a kit, a soccer ball and gold medals.
For being runner ups, Movers also received silver medals, prize money, a kit and balls.
Silas Maladjie from Real Fighters based in the same village of Mahonisi was the top goal scorer and received the award.
