The Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment Mr Willie Aucamp has hailed the well planned and executed plan from the park in response to the ravaging floods that hit Mpumalanga and Limpopo Province. The minister said this is a visit to the flood hit Kruger National Park where he sent time assessing the damage and talking to stakeholders.
“Our early warning systems meant that the emergency teams could act timeously to evacuate s and guests in a coordinated manner,” he sid.The minister also commended the team for applying a safety first,human-centric approach despite acing massive disruptions to operations and infrastructure – including road and gate closures , electricity outages and interruptions to the to other basi services,” he said. He said the outpouring of support was tremendous. He said SANParks has committed itself to establishing the Kruger Relief fund to help with rebuilding efforts , emergency supplies and any other necessities. The fund will be managed and audited by two independent auditing firms. He said he was satisfied that although indications are that the rainfall may continue in the next few days, the SANParks team and emergency services will be able to deal with the situation. The minister who visited the park during heavy rainy days is confident that the situation is being monitored. “We are grateful that no loss of life has been recorded and evacuations have progressed smoothly, and I once again extend my gratitude to the Park’s management team and emergency service for their swift response,” he said.. \.
