The late Hosi Busa Nxumalo who was my friend was a dedicated leader, said Executive Mayor Miyelani Chauke
Vhembe District Municipality Executive Mayor Miyelani Chauke used his courtesy visit to the Gidjana Traditional Council and Hosi Andrew Nxumalo to remember the new chief’s predecessor Busaa Charles Nxumalo who passed on in july 2021. Speaking at Gidjana traditional Council offices yesterday, Chauke praised the late chief. “He was a dedicated leader and I was fortunate to have been his friend. My parents were even surprised why a young man like me had an old man as a friend but we are very involved in politics together,” he said. Chauke who was coming from the Makhubele Traditional council where he met Hosi Ernest Makhubele said apart from seeing Hosi Nxumalo and visit the traditional council, he was coming to look at challenges facing the community and address them. he had been briefed by many cha;nges facing the community one was them was an issue of water challenges. He said he was donating a borehole in the premises of the traditional offices as an emergency measure but was looking and the municipality was looking at addressing the challenges faced by the community.. Hosi Nxumalo was not available and was represented by the deputy chairperson of the council,headman James Mabunda. But it was headwoman Grace Mateteswa who spoke on behalf of the council to thank the Executive mayor for coming to their village. She highlighted many challenges and requested the Executive Mayor to take a special look at the new settlement of Mafada whose situation is dire. “Whatever you talked about in terms of addressing water challenges, the area of Mafada is left out. The pipeline that is being mentioned that would address the water issue does not cover the settlement but leaves it out,” she said. Concerning the late Hosi Nxumalo, the Executive Mayor said he was concerned that at his funeral service, it was mentioned that he would be honoured but it has since been forgotten, But he thought the idea would be revived. At the funeral service of Hosi Bussa Nxumalo on August 1 2021, MEC Basikopo Makamu, who was representing the then premier Chupu Mathabatha said Nxumalo was an exemplary leader. “Upon his passing, he was studying towards the Masters’ degree at the University of Pretoria, and this is besides other qualifications,” said Makamu. Makamu added:”Like me, he was a teacher at heart and imparted knowledge to the next generation. had taught more sought after subjects such as Maths and Science, a true sharper of the mind of our next generation,” he said. Chauke was accompanied by members of his mayoral committee as well as theCollins Chabane Local Municipality Chief Whip Mafemani Eric Baloyi as member of the mayoral Chauke Faith Chauke.
