The organisers of the annual Bally Manganyi tournament recently held at Mahonisi Gaza International ground are happy that the tournament is a roaring success and hope that it will be bigger net year.
The one day four team tourney was won by Mahonisi Real Fighters.
Fighters who were the hosts beat Shigamani Junior Bucs 3-2 on penalties after they were 1-all in normal time.
Bucs had led the game from the first five minutes and conceded a late penalty which saw the hosts equalize.
In the finals Fighters also beat Malamulele United 3-2 on penalties. The two teams had ended the game on a goalless stalemate.
Before reaching the finals, United beat Vukosi Baloyi Foundation 2-0.
The tournament was sponsored by the local ANC, Manganyi family,and the ward committee dedicated to the late Bally,
The spokesperson for the organisers Mboni Manganyi said they were happy the effort to immortalize the late leader has come to fruition.
“We are happy with the support from the community and we hope the tournament will grow bigger,” said Manganyi.
Manganyi who was a teacher at Mahonisi Primary school at the time of his death was also a wellknown sports administrator. Born on March 17 1969, he died on November 11 last year after a short illness.
Richard Simango who worked closely with said he was happy his hard work did not go unnoticed.
“I worked with Bally at Kulani Soccer Association and later at Malamulele Soccer Association. He was a genuine sports administrator and it is fitting that the community that raised him honoured him this way,” said Simangu.
He said communities should take a leaf from the community of Mahonisi and make sure they note the hard work by selfless people like the late Bally Manganyi.
