The Women’s Elections Mechanism for Peace has deployed 50 women to monitor elections in Limpopo and more than 300 to monitor throughout the country. The lead peace envoy for Limpopo Makhulu Nana Nxumalo said she will be in Limpopo from Monday, leading a group of 50. “As peace monitors, we will be taking action throughout the election week, to promote peace and women’s participation in democracy and report incidents of violence and disruptions across the five provinces selected,” she said.
The five provinces identified are Limpopo, KwaZulu Natal, Eastern Cape, Western Cape and Gauteng. The organisation has established peace rooms in the five provinces.
