Water starved community believes Executive Mayor will solve the crisis

The water starved community of Lombard Village in the ward 35 of Collins Chabane Local Municipality believe the visit by the Vhembe District Municipality Executive Mayor Freda Nkondo emeralds a better future. The community has been without a functioning borehole since November last year. Nkondo visited the village on Wednesday October 22. In his presentation the chairman of Lombard Development Forum TH Mashava told the executive mayor of the community’s plight. he said the community comprises about 600 households most of whom have no bread winners and are relying on social grants. “Concerning the water issue, we have been without a functioning borehole since November last year. Your technicians visited the area several times and they said they were not able to solve the problems which required them to fish out the fallen pipe,” he said. Mashava also complained about the reservoir that is small and was provided by the former homeland government of Gazankulu more than 30 years ago. “All other communities have been provided reservoirs by the new government and our community still relies on the one that was given us while the community was still small. But we are happy with you coming because it is history. We have become spectators to developments hapennng is other areas and with your coming, we hope we are ging to be counted together with others when it comes to service delivery,” he said. He said the reservoir has no lid and items can be thrown into the reservoir causing a health hazards to the community. Mashava and other community leaders in the village led by Hosi Mtititi’s council led an inspection in loco.. The executive mayor was shown the reservoir and the borehole plants. Mrs Nkondo praised the community for handling issues especially the presentation they made. She pledged to look into their problems. “I will come back,” she said.
