Poultry farmers urged to opt for indigenous chickens

Poultry farmers in hembe were urged to consider indigenous chickens because they were a viable option. This was said by one of the farmers Emmanuel Mudau while addressing the Vhembe agricultural day seminar. Urging poultry farmers to consider indigenous chickens, Mudau said they had numerous benefits. “These chickens require less capital for expenses, maintenance, and health care and as such they are a cost effective chive,” he said. He said they are also recommended by health practitioners because of their organic nature, as they produce eggs that offer several health benefits. He further said that they having a lifespan of ten years, they provide a sustainable source of income and nutrition. The information seminar was organised by The Vhembe District Municipality in partnership with the Thulamela Local Municipality, and the department of agriculture, rural development and land reform. The event was addressed by councillor advocate Anderson Mudunungu who represented Executive mayor Freda Nkondo. \
