I am on the right track, says high school teacher who came second best

Baranuka high teacher Regina Mashoto came second in the National teachers Awards

Those are the words of Lebeya Regina Mashoto, a teacher at Baranuka Secondary school in Matiko Xikaya, Phalaborwa, to her colleagues at the school after she came second at the National Teaching

 Awards under the category of secondary schools best teachers.

The life science teacher at the one of the low performing schools in the province had been in the position last year.

She said to her colleagues: “I was gunning for position one but I am happy to retain position two. I will keep on trying.”

For her efforts, Mashoto has won herself laptop valued at R22 000, a Samsung Galaxy A24 valued at R4 500, a R10 000 Macro gift voucher and a wireless charging Powerbank.

Acknowledging that her school has not been doing well results wise, she said:” We are changing the narrative about Baranuka. People will be forced to see the greatness we possess”
